NOT SURE HOW TO UPDATE THIS

ATI RAGE 128 AMR V2.0

WIN98 WORKS FINE

PROBLEM:
W2K LOADS TO THE USER LOGIN SCREEN. WHEN I PUT IN MY PASSWORD IT CYCLES FROM LOGIN TO LOADING SETTINGS, SAVING
SETTINGS, INPUT USER SCREEN AGAIN.THE RESULTS ARE THE SAME ALL USERS. ALL LOADING MODES SAFE MODE,DEBUG,LAST KNOWN GOOD, ADMIN... NEVER LOADS PASSED THIS LOOP.

THIS ISSUE SPAWNED FROM DOWN LOADING THE W2K SERVICE PACK 2. AFTER DOWN LOADING I GOT STOP ERROR 0X7B. ( 0X0000007B (0XED41B84C, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)) TURNED OUT TO BE PIN ISSUE ON HDD DO TO NEW DRIVER IN SP2.
AT THIS TIME I UPDATED BIOS, CHIP SET ETC... FIXMBR......TRIED TO MAKE A BOOT FLOPPY TO BYPASS. CHANGED THE ERROR CODE TO OR CORRUPT NTOSKRNL.EXE FILE WHEN BOOTING FROM FLOPPY "ONLY". I REPLACED THIS FILE THRU RECOVERY CONSOLE. WITH FILE FROM W2K CD. I THINK THE SP2 UPDATED THIS FILE.... ISSUE?...SINCE I REPLACED WITH OLD FILE?

*FYI **AS A NOTE WITH 0X7B ISSUE: THE RECOVERY CONSOLE WORKS BUT THE W2K SETUP CAN NOT FIND VALID W2K TO REAIR OR REPLACE. HDD DRIVER UPDATED BY SP2. MAXTOR (A 17G)AND WESTERN DIGITAL (40GIG)DRIVES THAT ARE INSTALLED USING THE ALTERNATE PIN SETTINGS MUST BE RESET TO STANDARD PIN SETTINGS AFTER INSTALLING SP2. TO WORK.
ALTHOUGH WIN98 WORKS FINE WITH BOTH SETTINGS
THANKS FOR LOOKING, ANY INFO, LINKS,
I CAN’T SEEM TO FIND ANY THING.

THANKS AGAIN,
X2

I HAVE FULL ACCESS VIA W2K CD TO REPAIR OR REINSTALL W2K.NOW THAT I FOUND THE ANSWER TO THE STOP ERROR. WAS HOPING TO FIND THE PROBLEM & FIX.

ALSO I'M NOT CLEAR AS TO WHAT THE REPAIR WOULD REPLACE.?JUST REINSTALL SERVICE PACK? OR MORE?
REINSTALL WOULD ME I WOULD HAVE TO REINSTALL ALL PROGRAMS?
THANKS.
X2

No, you should not have to reinstall everything, but ALWAYS make a backup. You can try to repair during setup first and see if that helps... Matt Wray
