When installing W2K on an E-3000 Gateways our team ran into a problem with the Restricted user Guest account.
The Zip Drives no longer can be ejected by manually pushing the button. They may or may NOT work useing the software to eject them.
The Zip Drives will always eject from the Administrative account useing the software. (And may or may NOT work useing the manual button)
The Zip Drives were working fine when we had Win98 installed. This problem started when W2K was installed.

Check the properties under the zip drive by right-clicking on that drive letter and clicking on Properties. You might have selected it for Non-removeable, in that case click on the Iomega tap in Properties and select "Make Disk Removeable" under "Disk" information.

When setting an user account, you may want to allow the user as a 'power user'. I have run into this problem as well. It worked!

I work for OSU and we have many NT4 machines with Iomega Drives that have problems also. Although most of the systems haven't been upgraded to 2000, the problems could have similar roots. Anyway, they are working with microsoft and iomega to fix whatever the problem is. I don't think any fix has been reached yet. Justin

I would like to thank you for all the suggestions. This is what I finially did.
Downloaded new drivers for Iomega. (This solved the problem of restricted guest accounts. (We do not want to open those accounts to power users. We have trouble with Internet downloads) the restricted user can use File and Eject to get his disk out. *NOTE* They still cant use the button to manually eject the disk.
I think the team has found that a lot of the problems we are having with software is directly associated with W2K restricted user accounts.
I wish we could find some help with customizing the restricted user instead of useing the templete that is canned.(Any takers on this one?)
Thanks everyone for their input *:->*

Dear TechFairie,

My unit has 1 Gateway E-3000 (Pentium 200 MMX) box -- but we have not been able successfully to install W2K. [Apparently, you have succeeded, though.]

The machine has
no ZIP drive, DVD, CR burner, etc.
160 MB RAM and
the newest available BIOS.

The E-3000 isn't listed as a compatible device on the MS site and the Gateway tech site doesn't seem to provide an answer on upgradability.

I am most grateful for your advice.

With every good wish,

Dr. Bob
