I have FTP services running on a W2K box. The service seems to be running fine. I am able to logon and browse the folders and contents, but I can't upload. I get an "Upload Not Allowed" message in my FTP program.

I have tried both anonymous logon, and a user logon. I can get in with both, but just can't upload. I have permission to the FTP folders, and "local logon access".

Any thoughts as to what is rejecting the uploads?

Casey

Have you checked the acl's on the folders themselves? If write access is enabled in IIS, but that user does not have write access to that folder in the file system, upload will fail.

Allen,

I appreciate your response. I believe that I have the permissions you mentioned set appropriately. Just to make sure we are on the same page, I have given myself permission to write to the appropriate folder within the FTP root.

Is that what you were referring to?

Casey

Sounds like it. So within Ftproot you have a folder, and on the security tab your ftp users have read and write permissions, and you have UNchecked the box that allows permissions to propagate from the parent?

Then provided you have allowed write access to your ftp site through IIS

Still not working?

Allen,

To answer your question, "So within Ftproot you have a folder, and on the security tab your ftp users have read and write permissions, and you have UNchecked the box that allows permissions to propagate from the parent?":

Yes. The subfolder has been set to allow me permission to read and write. I have also unchecked the box that tells it to use the settings of the parent folder.

I am assuming I have allowed write access to the FTP site through IIS, but maybe I am missing something. Where in IIS do I specify write access to the FTP site?

Casey

I am working from memory here, since I'm not sittng in front of a pc with ftp installed, but as I recall, you should expand the ftp tree, right click on your ftp site (frequently called "default ftp") and choose "Properties". There should be checkboxes there for Read, Write, and Log Access.

If you don't find it there, I'll have to wait till I get home and look at my ftp server.
