Hello, I have the following problem. XP laptop, running through a hub tp a W2K Pro server. I can ping both ways, see the server in a search, but the W2K machine will not allow the laptop to log in. I have removed and added the laptop user name, and have set the share on the servers hard drive to share everyone, network and the laptop users name.Every time i try to log in the laptop, it says the the laptop doesn't have permission.
HELP!
Thanks,
Dave

One other thing, the W2K server is set up for internet sharing and the laptop can access the internet thru the W2K server

Hi

Are you trying to log into a domain?, if so Disjoin the laptop from the Domain, delete the laptops computer account from AD\server manager, wait 15-20 mins then re-add the Laptop to the domain.

Hope this helps

Si

No, we are using "workgroup" on a simple peer to peer network.
Thanks,
Dave

don't want to sound like mr. obvious, but file and print sharing is enabled on the win2k box, right?

Sammy,
I checked this morning, yes file and print sharing are enabled.
Thanks,
Dave

dave,

couple things to look at. make sure both computers belong to the same workgroup. then check and see if netbios over tcp/ip is enabled, if not then enable it. that might help.

good luck

Sammy,
Tried that earlier. The clients tells me the pc was infected with some viruses last week. Its been a while so I'm going to format and reload. Start over.
Thanks,
Dave
