It seems like every morning during the first boot up of the day it stops half way through. It stops with the progress bar half way through the "big white screen". Hitting reset starts the process again and 99.9% it boots fine the second time. How can I find out what is hanging during the first boot?

probably seems like a ide cable problem
change the cable thats connecting ur hard drive to the motherboard and all should be fine

i'am not sure but this is usually the case Kapil Aggarwal

I would second idea of opening box and reseating memory, cards, cables, ...

I had similar problem which I never resolved except by reinstalling. In my case, the hang was 20-50% of the time. -Wayne

Thanks for the ideas. I did all above and still the same problem. However, I did come up with a kluge fix. After I turn the cpu on and before it starts windows, I push the reset. Starting the process over has fixed the problem. Of course the questions remains why.

We have the same problem here, except the hang occurs only on our Global Catalog server. Our e-mail server does not hang.

By the way, what brand servers do you have? We have Dell PowerEdge 2550 servers.
