I have a W2K Server, SP2 with a ATI Rage XL Video Card, driver date 5.0.2184.1.

Sometime's when we go into My Computer and then try to exit My Computer, it won't close properly. It remains on the task bar. Trying to close My computer, nothing happens, You have to go into Task Manager and Kill it (End Task).

Now the part of the Blank Screen. When we do this, the screen goes blank (to the default windows color -blue, Not to be confused with blue screen of death) and the icons disappear, but the server for all intense purposes is still up and running. You can still access the server from the lan/wan, you just can't see anything (locally) on the screen. The only thing you can do is Ctrl-Alt-Del and bring up Task Manager. You can't right click on the desktop, nothing.

Any thoughts or this has happened to you, help would be appreciated.

The problem is caused by killing of the process which is showing my computer you can also kill explorer.exe

All you need to do is goto task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) the doing File|New Task the typing in explorer in the run line. This will bring every thing back. Mac [pipe]

Glad to be of service.

I've checked the Task Manager and Explorer.exe is still running. Should I stop it and restart it?

I found the same in a MS Yech Net Article 256194.
