We are having some problems on a Watchguard Firebox 700 with regards to the VPN’s. The problem is that the firebox is configured with approx 15 MUVPN accounts each but at random intervals the Firebox loses all the configured VPN accounts, so none of the users can get in remotely. The MUVPN accounts actually vanish from the Watchguard system manager but if you reboot the
Watchguard they all return as and everything works fine again.

Box is running latest version of the watchguard software and we want to avoid having to wipe the Watchguard and start again if possible.

watchguard support don't seem to have any idea why this is happening -

Any suggestions much appreciated.

When the firebox drops the accounts, check to see if IKED is still running in the service watch tab in the processes section. If IKED is not running then that is your problem. This can be caused by upgrading firebox software major versions and reusing your same config file from earlier versions. If this is the problem then the solution is to print off you current configuration and then in the policy manager, click on file->new. Create a new configuration and then re-enter your setting/policies/ect. into this new config file.

The way major versions have worked with the config file has changed with the various releases of watchguard software, and when you re-use the same config file some of the new stuff does not get added and you get stability problems or random errors like you explained above.

Hope this helps
