I'd configured an VPN in the office, windows98 clients connect and able to ping the main server w/o problems however, the xp clinets can connect but can not ping any of the internal ip's and I notice the XP clints get an ip of
192.168.2.254
& subnet mast of 255.225.225.255
It is strange where the window98 get a good IP from the VPN host and the subnet mast of 255.255.255.0 and it is correct.

I can't change the XP subnet mast to 255.255.255.0
on the XP clinets and think that subnet mast is the problem.

Thanks in advance.

how is ip assigned? what is the ip for the win98?

DHCP, however, I could pre-configured static IP on the window clients but no option to the XP's subnet mask.

Only window 98/ME subnet mask is preconfugureable for the VPN.

The IP for the window 98 is from the DHCP and it is an internal address of 192.168.2.251 subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
But for the window xp, it is 192.168.2.251 subnet mask 255.255.255.255

what is your current network setting in your office? workgroup or domain?
how did you configure your xp client compared to how you configure your win98? do they both 'obtain an ip address automatically'?

Our network is domain, window 98 & window xp do not have the same IP, I am connecting at different time that why I am getting the same IP, if both conncected at the same time the units will get 192.168.2.251 and 192.168.2.252 but the subnet mask did not change window98 get 255.255.255.0
& xp get 255.255.255.255. Very odd.

Both client gets the IP from the DHCP and hardly any difference I could see except the the subnet mask.
