We are using MS Server 2003 and have a domain that was working great(it may still be working). The boss is leaving the country for a few days and wants to connect remotely. I set up a vpn that allows ip-based remote access. That functions. In getting that up, somehow no one on the network can see the server or eachother.

I went home (small company) to test the remote connection and as I said previously, I connect. My system was registered on the domain and when I returned to work, my system was showing in the remote access clients folder. However, in my network places, I can only see myself.

The setup is 3 users with xp pro, a server with ms server 2003 behind a Linksys befsr81.

By the way, I couldn't ping the router yesterday from the server despite a funtional vpn connection with my home computer - weird. Now I can ping the router...we all can, but not each other. I redid the router settings from scratch.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If this is a repeat, I am having trouble posting.

You have to allow clients to access the entire network.
Check in the RAS properties the network configuration.

Thanks aldi for your reply. I am unclear whether I am checking this on the server or elsewhere. The server is configured to be a router and dhcp (as of VPN installation, but not before - it's not a dhcp server as all the computers have a static ip on the network) for a range of ips...all the users have access to the network as far as rights and security go...IP routing is enabled also, which allows remote access clients to have access to the network.

This is all beyond my expertise. I'm just the guy in the office who knows a little more than the others.

I should add, when a users tries to connect to a prviouly shared resource, they receive the error: Network path not found.

Ok...I think I have an idea what is wrong...The server has 2 nics. One is connected and one is not...How do I set up the second nic?...Obviously one connections is for vpn and the other the network...I get a message that they won't function if they have the same gateway.

Help.

I fixed it...second nic was the issue...rebooted everything...good to go. Dot the "i"s and cross the 't's folks.

Hi Rook,

I too have the same problem, Please could you advise on how i could fix it. I am able to make a vpn connection, but can't browse or ping any of the network. I have a number of other machine that don't have a problem making a Vpn connection and browsing the network. The client thast makes the VPN has to NIC, could this be the problem???

Thanks,

Peen
