Hello All,

I am going to attempt to connect two 501 PIX's. I need to have a vpn conection between two offices, and have the users be able to surf the web, receive email at the same time. Will I have to use split tunneling to get this, or will setting up the 2 PIX's to connect to each other (Easy VPN) allow me to have the vpn connectivity I need, along with the web surfing / email access?

Thanks for any thoughts on this subject.

Site to Site VPNs will only send "interesting" traffic through the tunnel. Your internet and web traffic will go out to the web ok. I have never used Easy VPN, so I am not able to comment on it.

Thank You Rudeboy,
I hope I am not being obtuse, but am I correct in the statement that I will not have to configure the 2 PIX's for split tunnelling? Forgive my lack of knowledge I new to the PIX, still trying to learn.

BTW

If you have time I have a config here that I have been trying to get someone to look at to verify if my config for split tunneling to a PIX would work.

At the present the cisco vpn client connects, but I cannot access remote desktop, or use outlook 2003 to get to my exchange server.
I am using a 4.0.3 cisco vpn client.
I can connect to the PIX, but the stats show I am sending ,but not recieving. I think my PIX cfg may be askew to say the least! If time permits would you take a look a my cfg in the earlier post, and tell me if you see anything glaring

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated !!!

Thanks again for ALL the help you guys give out!.

Correct..you don't have to worry about split tunnel when doing site to site.

Try changing this
access-list outside_cryptomap_dyn_20 permit ip any 192.168.11.0 255.255.255.0
to this
access-list outside_cryptomap_dyn_20 permit ip 192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.11.0 255.255.255.0

Rudeboy,
Thank You for your time, and the info. I am going to try this change today!

Again Thanks for the help I really appreciate it!

Rudeboy,

one more question if I may, could you suggest a good pix article that explains the setup of 2 pIX's for site to site connectivity?

Thanks

I'm attempting this same scenario. Right now, I have two 501's and both are configured to accept dialin pptp. I'm wanting to connect the two so that users can continue to use internet, etc as normal, but have access to servers in the other office via the vpn tunnel. I believe this is referred to as split tunneling, but I'm new to all of this.

Would it be possible to get a posting of step by step instructions for each pix to get this configured? I should note that i'm in a remote location, so i'm doing this via ssh. I can't run any commands that might lock me out along the way.

Thanks.

Thanks for the link. Can you confirm if I should be able to follow these steps remotely without getting locked out, or would I need to be physically at the pix?

Thanks

i wasn't at either location on that vpn. i ssh'd in, and i set up one first, then the other, then just started testing and tweaking my config til it worked. (with a bunch of help from this forum!)
