VPN - XP.pro via internet using vpn to XP.pro ?

Linksys BEFVP41 Ether Fast Cable/DSL VPN Router

1:
Office - 5 computers’s running on XP Pro - NO SERVER. Just windows xp (office) network. The router in the office is Linksys BEFVP41 Ether Fast Cable/DSL VPN Router. Internet via Cable.
2:
Home: XP pro with Cable modem connected via - tcp.ip (networkcard) to the internet.

I will connect them both ways - from the office to home - and from home to the office. Can I do that??

Any tips - of links is a great help. Microsoft..., they only explain xp to 2000 (server) and linksys do not respond!!!!

You can do both. Beware of firewall entries that would kill the connection. On the connection to the office from home, check to enable using the remote gateway.

On your home router:

Filter Tab:
Make sure both IPSec and PPtP are checked to enable to pass through. If other VPN-endpoing is a Win2K server, disable IPSec pass-thru.

Forwarding Tab:
VPN 1723 - 1723 Both TCP and UDP checked Address: 192.168.1.xxxx (your local address)


You can try, if port triggering works reliably on your router, this alternative to port forwarding above:
VPN 47 - 47_____________1723 - 1723
VPN 50 - 50______________500 - 500
Apply, then Continue

I dont have a router home, just in the office........

If at home you are using the Windows Firewall, you need to adjust the settings to permit the traffic shown above just as if you had a router.

The router at work will need to have the ports opened as above for VPN to work.
