Hey there,
I recently volunteered to be the IT support person for a local non-profit organization. The org is some distance from me (about 40 miles). Because of this, I would like to configure a VPN to their network (it's a routed network), and remote controll their PCs and Server. Here is what they have:
DSL connection to the internet. They have a routed network, with a Netgear FYS318 router. They have a static IP assigned to the router. The router is also their DHCP server. They are running Server 2000 for a domain controller, and it also acts as their web server.
At my house, I don't have a static IP. I have cable to the internet. What I want to be able to do is to connect to their network via VPN, and service their network. What would this entail? I have never worked with VPN, and I know the router is a VPN endpoint. Do I need any other software (besides the remote controll software (I'm going to use Dameware's mini remote))?
When I try to hit the IP of the router from my house, I get forwarded to the webserver (their web page comes up). I would imagine that's some sort of port forwarding that they have...would this interfere?
Any help would be greatly appreciated (by me, and the org!).
Thanks,
Kyle Pendleton
