Hello.

I have a server set up that has a shared folder on it.

I have a remote location with two computers on the same router.

One computer can access the VPN and finds the shared folder with no problem (I access the folder by adding it to My Network Places.)

The 2nd Computer can log onto the VPN but when trying to add the folder, it gives a folder not valid error.

I know that this is a common problem. What is the deal? Each computer connects at different times and uses the same password, so there are no problems with access restrictions.

What's up?

Please post an IPCONFIG/ALL from both machines when connected.

both machines give

192.168.1.3

and

192.168.1.119

neither can ping the server at 192.168.1.118, but that doesn't matter, because one computer can access the folder without being able to ping.

I would check the dns suffix on the tcpip properties of the vpn adapter connection. Try to access the server by \\ip address from the run line. Also make sure the default gateway are theme when connected to VPN.

I took your advice and it worked......ONCE.

Now I can not get access that way, either.

I was on long enough to create a shortcut to the folder, but now nothing works.

Have you seen this problem before?

nope the first I have seen of it, Which one worked the from the run line bit ?

The one that couldn't access the folder was able to get it for a moment, but then lost it. The one that can not access the folder, can't do it from the run line, either, but it can still access the folder.

SOMEHOW, both computers work now, though. Imade some changes to no avail, and eventually set everything back to default, and it now works. However, I still have a 3rd location experiencing the same problem.

Another question is this: How can I clear the line so that I can be connected to the internet and the server simultaneously?

I tried using the server ip (192.168.1.120) as a proxy, and it worked once. Now it doesn't anymore. Any ideas?

FIXED IT!

Right-click the VPN connection in Network Connections, and go to the networking tab and then to TCP/IP Properties. Click advanced and deselect "Use default gateway on remote network".

That's it!

But I still don't know how I fixed the folder access thing.

I work on computers all day an finally they get tired of me and start working =) Cheers RK1

HELP....
I don't see my shared files....
And I'm new to this vpn networking....
I finally got a VPN(connection) to work.
Running Win XP as the server with a wireless linksys router. Port forwarding is setup and working...

I'm using Win Xp at home as the client, with a linksys router also.

As, I mentioned I can connect, but where or how do i share my files, so that I can use them from home. I thought the shared folders would appear in My Network Places?

Any idea's or help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks
Carl

You can not browse for these shared folders. You must add them manually using Add Network Place.
