Looking for the best solution:

Without sacrificing too much speed for heavy encryption, looking for a solution that will allow users to remotely connect to network

Have been using Terminal server 2003 for only a handful. Looks like the number of users going to be increasing to approx 40+

Looking into other VPN solutions as well.

Criteria:

Best encryption without too much overhead

Least amout of setup on client machine yet prevent user from passing out information to friend to logon....

Also this is for a muninipality with a limited budget so costs need to be kept low
Thanks,
J

If you have a hardware based firewall in your environment, you might look into that first. Many firewall products also support IPSEC VPN's.

Look at Watchguard - great firewall and decent VPN capabilities.

Sonicwall & their h/w + GPVN solutions are good

Aventail SSL VPN EX-750 also a good choice, and requires nothing on client systems.

SnapGear has inexpensive and very solid solutions.

We've implemented a Juniper SSL VPN.

We have it set to check the connecting machine for antivirus. antispyware and a personal firewall, before it will go any further. Once they connect, they simply use Remote Desktop to access their office machine.

We aso have it tied into RSA secure keyfobs to control access. Slightly more expensive (RSA fobs are NOT cheap) but the security peace of mind is worth it.
