hi, this is my first post.
i am posting here cause i am completely desperate.
i am a newbe on vpn.

as is understood vpn, i connect one network to another
simulating both where one.
or a single machine to a network.
the last one is what i wanna do.

right now i just wanna test the whloe thing on my local
area network.
here is what i have:
a router (netgear wgt624v2)
[this provides my internetconnection over satndartgateway on
every pc.]
a view pcs haveing win2k pro on them (no server edition just win2k pro )
now i wanna make this network beeing able to let a
pc from the internet in just as it would be right there
at lan.

as far as i got into the materia, i need to set up a
vpn server wich routes the connecting pc on to the lan right ?
but problem number 1)
where to get a vpn server ? i possible free at the moment.
but a trail version of anything would be good enough.
as i said just enough to get into it.

problem number 2)
how to set that thing up. i messed around with wingate vpn
and got nowhere. i tried to connect via internet
portforwarding 808 and 809 the the vpn server machine
BUT always used pcs from my own network.

i am just a little bite confused ... the coolest thing would
be if anybody could give me a nice tutorial
which describes how to host a vpn on normal win machines
and connect to it.

thanks in advance

You can setup 2kPro machine to allow incoming conections (when you to this select VPN). During the wizard it will ask you what user are allowed to dial in mke sure you tick one. Finish the wizard. That takes care of the server. On the client create a new dial-up which uses vpn. then use the ip of the newly setup 2kPro Sever. It will ask for a user name which will have to be the one you enabled to dial in. For your router you need to do port forwarding. As PPTP uses port 1723. This will redirect any traffice hidding your router with a request with that port onto the appropriate machine.

the wizzard just lets me chose between
prallel and parallel connection ;-)
how can i activate vpn conns there ?

thanks in advance

Have a look around there. Could be worth having a little play. I havent got a 2kPro machine to look at. But the vpn income is there somewhere. As soon as i get to look at a 2kPro machine I will let you know.

Sorry about the delay.
When it display's parellel connections. Dont tick any just press next and then it gives you the von option.
