Is it necessary to have an HTTP or FTP server for the VPN files? I've tried loading the files onto the phones by putting them onto the embedded memory card on the IPO 500, setting the HTTP and FTP server IP address as the IPO's IP address, and following the steps by entering a sequence of keys on the dial-pad for the phone to look for the files. Am I missing something? or is it simply that I need to have an actual HTTP or FTP server?

Yeah it works. Sometimes I think Avaya only did half the job requiring field Techs do the rest. Anyhow, I did read the info on the "SET SMBLIC 1," and yes it is only required for the 4600 series sets.

You don't in R6 huh? How is that? Are the VPN licenses just standard, already included in the base unit?

With 6.0 Avaya introduced the ipphone license.
Whit this license you already have a VPNphone "license"
