Here is my 2 week long problem, my friend wants to have access to my LAN over the internet, he is a few houses away and we both have road runner for internet. I have set my computer to allow internet connections to connect to this computer, there is modem and LPT1 boxes to check, but neither one of those is what he will be connecting to me with. He has set up on his side VPN to connect to me and when we trys to connect it gives him the 733 error tcpip, saying that either himself or me do not have the correct protocols, i have read through pass forums with people who have the problem and none of them have seemed to work. Thanks for the help all :)

A) Is there any hardware between the computer and the cable modem on either end? If so, please specify.

B) What version of Windows are you using on both sides, including service pack?

no router or anything, and we are using XP Pro with the most recent updates.

Open the properties for the VPN connection. Click the networking tab, click settings. UNmark the box that says 'Negotiate multi-link for single link connections'. Try again.

That box is missing from some versions of Windows, you have to edit the registry, but I think it is there on all versions of XP, so you should be fine.
