I have finally had success in setting a VPN connection through a Netopia R-7100 Router. However, after being authenticated by the MS2K Server and establishing a connection it immediately drops the connection. I have no idea why. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I love that router! I have an R9100. Here are some snaps of my configuration. I am running firmware 4.10, get yours updated if it is not. There are some VPN fixes in some of the versions. Check your filters! You may be blocking something. Do you have dialup rights on your user account in windows domain?

I have just recently setup a sucessful VPN server on a Netopia R-7100.

Have you tried using the Router itself as the VPN server. It's actually fater than the W2K is. Mine was also dropping the connection. It turns out the problem lied in the client dial-in setup. Be sure that the Data Compression is unchecked. I'm assuming the Client is Win98 using MS-CHAP sign in. Right click on the the connection profile and goto server type, uncheck Log on to Network and uncheck Data Compression, you need to be sure that require authentication is checked, and also require data encryption is checked if your router is setup for that. If you need anymore help lemme know.

I think he is using the router as the VPN client and the PPTP server is Win2k.

Oh I thought he was using the W2K server behind the router. That's what I started out doing :). But, my router was much better :).
