VPN Clients Unable to browse domain

We've got several clients connecting to our Windows 2000 network via a VPN set-up. Recently, all of them started having trouble browsing our network or using their network shares after 12 or 14 hours. They can successfully ping but they still can't access the needed network resources. We reboot the Domain controller and they can do whatever they need to do for the rest of the day.

Any suggestions of things to look into is appreciated.

are you using WINS ?
are the VPN clients configured to use WINS at the time they are connected to the DC ?
Does disconnecting the VPN connection and reconnect (without reboot of the DC) work ?

what kind of VPN are you using ? pptp ? l2tp ?

We're not using NetBeui--I'll try it but didn't think we had to with XP clients.

We are using Wins and also LMHosts for name resolution. We're using Watchguard for VPN and disconnecting doesn't help.

Thanks for the comments so far. Please let me know if you think of anything else to check.

Another possible solution is to enable Netbios over TCP/IP under the WINS setup.

I see that works in the past. Of course, if you are running native Active Directory, you shouldn't have to worry.

I second that - netbios over tcp/ip won't do any harm

Thanks a lot for the responses so far.

We do have NetBios over TCP enabled at the server and the client. We do also use Active Directory. Everyone lost their ability to browse again this morning. We rebooted the domain controller and they were again able to access resources. Very strange....

how many network cards are inside the server ?
is WINS bound to both cards (if you have 2) ?
