I am not sure if this would be a windows 98 or windows NT thing. I have a remote client that uses VPN to connect to our NT server at the main office. The problem is that I am trying to set up this remote client with a printer for a unix server and I NEED this client to get the same IP address everytime he connects. Currently the NT is set up to use DHCP to assign ip's to internal and remote clients. If I can I would like to force all my VPN clients to have static IP's, because of other problems with conflicting IP address when using DHCP with VPN. Anyways, I know enough about NT 4.0 to be dangerous so if you know a way (perferably easy) to do this I would greatly appriciate it.

Thank you in advance

Howdy!

What you are wanting to do is add a reservation. It is easiest to do when the client is connected so you are sure to get the names correct.

1. Open the DHCP manager.
2. Click SCOPE and click ACTIVE LEASES
3. Look for the client and his address and make sure you get the spelling right.
4. close the Active Leases window
5. Click SCOPE and click ADD RESERVATIONS
6. Put in the IP address they currently have and the Client Name. Unique Identifier can be anything (I'd use Client Name) . Comment is optional.
7. Repeat as needed.

Clients will always have that address.
