VPN Client & Local Network

Hi!

First: I'm sorry, but my English is very poor.

My Environment:
I'm working in a Win9x workgroup without WINS, DNS or other server. I use fixed IP address (192.168.1.x).

After I installed a new PC with Windows 2k and I connected it to a VPN Server - throught the company's internet connection (ADSL) - the computers can't browse on the LAN and this computer can't access the internet, mail and LAN.
From other PCs I can access the shared folders and printers with UNC (\\Server\Share), and I can ping all computers - exclude the VPN client.

I find out the computer browser is that PC how use windows 2000.

My Questions:
1.) How can I fix computer browser?
2.) How can I access my e-mail and network printservers in LAN from the VPN client, during active VPN connection?

I do not understand all of the information in your post, but I will address what I do understand and ask questions about the rest.

A) I understand that you did have a peer-to-peer network setup with W9X computers. You were able to browse the network at one time. You do not have any NT or W2K Servers. You added a W2K Pro system and have not been able to browse the network since then.

If I am correct so far, start by making sure that the W2K machine is set with the same workgroup name as the other machines. Right click on My Computer, click on Properties, click the Network Identification tab, then click on properties. The workgroup name should be the same as the W9x computers. Also make sure that it is entered as workgroup, not domain. If you change anything here, reboot the W2K computer, wait 2 hours and try to browse again.

If that doesn't work, I would turn off the 'master browser' ability of the W2K machine. To do so, you need to edit the registry. This is a dangerous thing -- it could harm your computer. If you do not know how, you should find someone else to do it. The key that you need to change is:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters\MaintainServerList
The value of this key should be set to 'No'

After that is done, reboot the W2K and wait. Browsing should start to work. If it does not, post back and I will try again.

B) You did not say, so I am assuming that you are using the VPN client that is part of W2K. If that is correct, click Start --> Settings --> Network and Dialup Connections. Right click on the VPN connection and click on Properties. Click on the Networking tab. Click on TCP/IP protocol and click Properties --> Advanced. Select the General tab. The box beside 'Use default gateway on remote network' should NOT be marked. Correct that, then click OK on each form until they are all closed. Restart your computer and test again.

If you do not understand any of the directions, or if I do not understand the problem correctly, post back and I will try to clarify. If you are able to complete these steps and still have problems, report back what problems you are having. Try to be more specific about your ping tests, report which error you get -- request timed out, no route to host, unknown host, etc. Also, what is the VPN server you are connecting to?

Many thanks your help. I turned off Computer browser service on my PC.

I try write my problems again.

I use Nortel Networks VPN Client to access my Company's central network from one computer throught internet.
This PC is one of my computers. This run Win 2k, the other use win9x. I use workgroup.
When I connect the VPN Server, the VPN client can't acces the local computers. After I disconnect I can access the local network, I can connect to my mailserver etc.

The 'VPN connection' is not in the 'Network and Dialup Connections.
