VPN choices

I have a friend who called me indicating he needed a VPN for a small office. The office network is running XP. They are connected to the Internet via DSL and a Linksys router (non-vpn capable). They would like to be able to access the office network (and/or their personal machines) from the road. What would be a secure solution that doesn't cost a fortune?

Change the LinkSys router for one that does terminate VPN tunnels. e.g Cisco 501. Then use Cisco VPN client for remote PCs.

Can then raise VPN tunnel either with remote DSL / Cable / Dial-up connections.

Cost approx GBP600

GBP600 is not exactly "budget" for a small office.

Install Microsoft IAS on one of your servers and see if it will PPTP through your router. PPTP should route fine through a NAT device, it is L2TP that has problems with NAT.
-PPTP supports 128 bit encryption
-you will need to be able to proxy a port from the outside interface of the router to the ias box.

Problem is all the machines are running XP, and they're just peer-to-peer.
