I am new to VPN and I am trying to link my home computer, or home network, to our office network. The office setup uses a Netgear FVS318 behind a 2WIRE 1701HG DSL modem/gateway, which supports VPN passthru. The FVS318 is in DMZ mode on the 2WIRE, and shows the WAN IP of the DSL modem. We have dynamic IP thru SBC; the FVS318 is set for dyndns.org, and that resolves to the current IP correctly.
I have the Netgear Prosafe client VPN software for home, but I can't quite figure out how to get it configured. My home network is also on a dynamic IP Cable-modem connection, with a linksys WGT624 router behind a Motorola Surfboard 5100 cable modem. I don't understand what the parameters of my home network really are. Do I need dyndns on my home router as well? If anyone can help me with getting this to work, or refer me to an appropriate reference, I would be grateful!

Thanks for the reply. I have spent hours with that Netgear document! It apparently refers to an older version of the FVS318 firmware, as the config screens are not quite the same as this document decribes. Particularly, where its says :"remote IPSec identifier - enter any name", I don't see any field like that to enter a name. I am also unclear as to what the Remote LAN IP start address is (that would refer to my home network) - its sounds like you can put in anything at all there. I have changed the default LAN IP ranges a little at work - I have an additional wireless access point. Everything there is in the 192.168.1.1 thru 192.168.1.254 range. My local LAN at home uses the same internal range.
Thanks, Joe
