VPN Basic Query 1

Hi

I need to get a basic understanding of the following so any help would be much appreciated.

We have one main office and would like to open another small branch office. The branch would only be 3-4 PC's or Laptops but would need to connect to the main office to access network shares. What would be the best way to go about this in terms of a hardware/software solution (or an example of a typical setup)? As its only a few users I was thinking of setting up a workgroup but would like some ideas how would they get to access to the data at the main site.

I have a similar setup. We are using D-Link DFL 700 VPN Firewalls. They can be configured to connect to each other using a VPN tunnel.

Very easy to set up.

Ok am I correct in saying that the remote office can use the Same IP range as the main office and a VPN link will allow the remote PC's to join the domain and access the main office resources (as though they were in the physically situated there).

You can not have the same ip ranges. You are going to have to go with a new IP range for the other office like so...

Main Office:

IP: 10.20.40.0 - 10.20.40.255
Subnet: 255.255.255.0 (make sure both are on the same subnet)

Branch Office:

IP: 10.20.41.0 - 10.20.41.255
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Under VPN Query thread at the bottom of the thread there is the word network (in green and underline) when you click on it you are redirected to a link selling intel memory. If you hold the mouse over the word you will get a pop up box
