I have a user that wants to connect to his desktop pc here at work, however he doesn’t want to allow others to access his files. He was on a 98se client that I just password protected and he was able to access his share then but I upgraded him to W2K Pro and because I only gave him permissions to the access the share when he comes in over the VPN he gets denied. Any solution is greatly appreciated

When he tries to go to the share, he will be prompted for a username and password. If he enters his ordinary network username and password he will get access to the share. He may need to prefix the username with the domain name, eg domain\username.

If he doesn't get prompted to enter a username and password when he tries to get to the share then something is wrong.

This is a windows 2K Pro and I have tried this with different 2K pcs and I don't get the logon box.

If he used to connect from win98se then the username had to be (domain)\(username). Now that it is a W2k connecting did you take out the (domain). Then have him connect to a share file and it should prompt him for a password.

When I try to access his share I get a message stating access denied, it never offers a logon box.
