I have a machine at the office with the CISCO VPN client installed on it. It works fine. However if I want to connect to that computer remotely using Remote Desktop and use VPN I have a problem. It seems that the VPN disconnects - or at least prevents any communication with the remote desktop session so as soon as I contact with the VPN client my machine just hangs on the remote end and I am dead in the water. I'd like to be able to access VPN from any Internet capable computer such as in a library, kiosk etc. but that is impossible unless I can figure out how to resolve this issue. I was hoping there is some configuration setting somewhere that will make this work????

Do you have a firewall blocking specific ports (such as TCP 3389 for Remote Desktop)? By default when a VPN connection is established all TCP/UDP ports work, unless there is some type of access control list or firewall restricting those ports on the inside interface of the VPN.

by inside interface of the VPN - would you be referring to the outside network that I am connecting to - or our network. (The VPN belongs to a company we do work for).

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Inside interface on the VPN concentrator faces your LAN. It forwards all traffic from VPN clients to your LAN as if it was directly connected to the LAN. This is why I think theres a firewall in front of it, before it hits your LAN or a firewall policy on the VPN concentrator itself.

Why use Remote Desktop? Whynot Dameware, or PC Anywhere, which won't lock the remote session if there's a user connected like RDC does?
