We run networker 6.1.1 on a Sun ultra450 running Solaris 8. We use two pools, Daily and Weekly. Our retention and browse policies are set to 2 weeks for Daily and 12 weeks for Weekly. When I run a test backup using our test group it uses Daily tapes, as we have instructed it to do. When it saves the index file and bootstrap, the expiration date is set to 12 weeks. Any ideas why? I'm thinking it's an easy fix, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks.

You can create an new pool to filter the index and bootstrap information or you set the retention and browse policy of the Backup-Server "2 weeks".

type: NSR pool;
name: Bootstrap_Index;
enabled: Yes;
pool type: Backup;
label template: Default;
groups: ;
clients: ;
save sets: bootstrap, index;
levels: ;
devices: ;

Do you have the server as part of the test group ? If not, try to include the server in the test group, with same retetion policies as the other clients in the group ofcause. When the server itself is not part of the group any index/bootstrap saves will be given the default clients retention policies.

Thank you. I created a new instance of the server and placed it in the test group. I set the browse and retention policies to two weeks. The only save set I used was bootstrap to save space on the tapes. Problem fixed!
