I have a BCM 200 at the office and a i2004 at home connected via a linksys router and cable modem. The phone and features work, but every 5 or ten minutes the phone looses the connection to the server.

I dont think its a local (office) BCM issues since the IP sets at the office work well over the LAN.

Constant pings to the BCM from home dont show any major drops in service. The VPN on the PC (I'n not running router to router VPN) stays up and none of the shared drives disconnect.

I'm new to this arena so advice, no matter how basic, would be appreciated.

Thanks to all.

Thank you Spanning. What is it obout the router that has issues? I thought I had read in other posts of people using the linksys successfully. Will try it and post results.

I didnt have a D-link router on hand so I tried both a Cisco PIX 501 and a Belkin router with interesting results. I get all the signaling and ringing but no audio. I opened all the specified ports 51000-XXXX and even spated a rule on the pix to allow all traffic on all ports from the BCM server IP to the static internal address on the phone. Same results.. no audio.

I finaly got it working by setting up a pix to pix VPN tunel and setting the internal LAN interface as the published IP address.

Allthough this is a good workaround, I would rather not have to use VPN to connect the phones. I know its a setting on the remote(Home) pix because if I connect the phone directly to the cable modem with a public address it works fine.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Force download firmeware to i2004. I have a linksys at one site connecting to IPSEC tunnel in to BCM (No Linsys at host end) and it works fine.
