recently I've been reading some pretty scary reports about VOIP phone systems and security breaches. I have also taken a number of the systems of line because of customer dissatisfaction. I've also heard that the FCC is considering regulating VOIP. Has anyone had these similar experiences.

not a troll , just an old phone guy who is afraid or unable to learn new technology and is essentially trying to hold his customers hostage because of this.

Problem for him is that 99.999 % of customers will see right through it.

Technology changes, you either adjust or end up out of work.

And to the original post, the FCC already does regulate voip. I don't see why this is bad?

i am saddened to see that even a year later you are still continuing this. The end result is that you actually only hurt the few customers that you manage to convince.

DYK that there are already 300 million voip users worldwide? And that number is expected to double by the end of 2015?

@Phoneguy610

When you look at his posting history, I found it interesting, bordering on suspicious, how many of his posts involve calling into systems and having calls transfer externally. They look legit individually, so I hesitated to mention it, but that was the source of the troll comment.

If you want to end it, why not just stop adding to it?

Errrr hum, I was not the one wanting the thread to close. I was merely offering advice to those who do.
So you can take your pot/kettle comment as inappropriate in this case.[wink]

You know what? Let's keep it going because we all stand to learn from each other's comments. I was kidding about "all in favor". Sorry if it was taken seriously. The fact of the matter is VOIP IS here to stay regardless of our oppinions of it. I, too, unfortunately hold some old school in me, being in the industry for 32 years now. But the important thing to remember is we all stand to learn from each other and we all have this in our blood and need to help each other (tissue, anyone?) Thanks. Please continue..........................

Always look out for the next guy because it may be you!

We've recently made the switch from Allstream PRI to Allstream SIP and we only have a crap DSL (3/.400) and T1. Mind you we use a very unique product to aggregate the links with Bi-Directional QoS. That said we haven't had a single issue in the 4 or 5 months since the switch. Obviously the big difference between a solid SIP service and a crap one solely rely's on your connection i.e. enough bandwidth and QoS. I've heard some bad things about Bell's new SIP, I guess they made an upgrade and it brought there entire SIP clientele off line.

So bottom line, do your homework on the provider make sure they're not new to the SIP world and have an IT professional complete a full audit of your network. Follow these steps and you'll never notice a difference.

Note* if your located in Canada, Allstream was the first to roll out SIP services among the big telco providers in 2006 and I would highly recommend there services to anyone considering VoIP.

DYK that there are already 300 million voip users worldwide...
Think you'll find it MUCH higher than that, as many carriers back haul is done with VoIP (UK's BT 21CN is a prime example). The thing is, most don't have a clue they are using it on a daily basis.

Robert Wilensky:
We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.

Sympology, you better watch out though copper pots lines are still the future[bigsmile]
