Can someone please tell me what updates (software and hardware) would be necessary to run VOIP on the Option 11Cs that we have. The current version is 2111 Release 24 with several patches. I'm clueless as to where to start.
for ITG trunk, You will need to upgrade to Rls 25 or later with packages - 57, 58, 59, 145, 147, optional - 160, 263, 305, 148
Also need OTM 1.0 or later
For ITG line, You will need to upgrade to Rls 25 or later with packages - 88, 170 and ISM parameters to support the number of IP terminals you intend to use. And OTM 1.2 or higher
Do you want use VOIP across a single site - or use VOIP to *link* sites - say, siteA to siteB, with standard Option 11 PBX's at either end ? (Just that you mentioned multiple option 11s in the first post!)
Second option does not make use of VOIP in terms of structured (cat5, etc) cabling on sites themselves, but can be used to link siteA to siteB across a data link that may already be in place.
If second option is what you're after, you can do something like:
option11 siteA-->cisco router with VWIC card-->data link-->cisco router with VWIC card-->option11 siteB
This gives you *some* VOIP, and allows you to make use of already paid (or paying) for data links, extension dialling betweens sites without being charged, etc.
You basically can run on any release of software that supports TIE trunks, but we have 24.11 (I *think*) ??
poza...I think we will eventually want to link our 37 sites. We currently have 12-24 trunks (ground start)going to each site depending on the size of the location. My supervisor is "interested" in VOIP and what would be involved in upgrading each switch. If I print the version/issue information in LD 22 I'm running Release 24
Version 24+. Second option sounds good but we don't have any TIE trunks. I'm still researching and any advice would be helpful. Thanks!
Sucession 3 software does NOT require you to use VOIP. The release 3 is like what would have been Release 26 (which did not come out). If you have a signaling server with the upgrade then you can go to a full VOIP type switch. It is called a Sucession 1000 then. If NO signaling server, then the switch is called Sucession 1000M. Just treat Release 3 as you would any other switch without VOIP.
According to my readings, a Meridian 1 system running Succession 3.0 software WITHOUT a signaling server is called a "Meridian 1 Internet Enabled"
Should you ADD a signaling server, it is then a Succession 1000M (M for Meridian).
Option 11C Mini w/ Succession software and signaling server is now called a Succession 1000M Chassis
Option 11C Cabinet with Succession software and signaling server is now called a Succession 1000M Cabinet.
Option 51C with Succession software and a signaling server is now called a Succession 1000M HG (HG = Half Group)
Option 61C with Succession software and a signaling server is now called a Succession 1000M SG (SG = Single Group)
Option 81C with Succession software and a signaling server is now called a Succession 1000M MG (MG = Multi Group)
The CSE 1000 or Succession 1000 systems are set up with a 19" rack-mount Call Server which houses ONLY the NTDK20 SSC (Succession System Controller) along with Media Gateways housing secondary SSC cards as well as 4 IPE cards beginning their numbering at card 11 up to 14 (1-10 exist in software only, with no physical connection as the Call Server has no card slots other than the one for the SSC) Then you have Media Expansion Gateways which begin cards numbered at 17-20.
***SPECIAL NOTE***Card numbers 15 and 16 are not available for use (Or any 5th or 6th "slot" of a Media Gateway) as the Media Gateway (NTDU14) is an Option 11C Mini Main Chassis (NTDK91) with a new part number and nameplate on it. The Minis allowed for the use of a 48-port DLC in slot 4, built up as 4, 5 and 6. The Media Gateway Expansion (NTDU15) is a Mini Expander Chassis (NTDK92) with a different part number and nameplate on it.
How does all that sound? Am I anywhere NEAR being right? Anyone else confused?
There is many different solutions you can choose even if you are running Meridian/Succession.
Not all are the right way to go for all customers.
I would also say that an IP solution is a more fragile solution. The down-time will be bigger on an Ip switch or network. So its also a matter of reliability. What is important for you?
There isn't any possibility to upgrade to for example rel 25.40 now. Nortel doesnt sell that anymore.
Its no use to buy that either.
You get the same (and more) functionality in rel 3.0.
It will not cost you more either.
To go for rel 3.0 doesn't mean that you have to go for IP.
But you can if you want..
