Hi All,

403DT 2.1(15), VMPro 2.1.6.

When leaving a voicemail, message notification should be send to specified email address. Notification is however never send. I get following error in event viewer (2000 server):

EasyMail SMTP error!
Server:smtp.xs4all.nl
08/23/04 10:28:20
503 5.0.0 Need MAIL before RCPT
503 5.0.0 Need MAIL command

Any ideas?

Perhaps you have to log onto the SMTP server... Is the SMTP address correct? Verify your settings with the requirements of the SMTP server.

In the voicemail pro icon in control panel, on the first tab, what did you put?

Review my FAQ on this subject here in this forum.

Hi again,

Neil,it didn't matter if I log-on or not. Both settings result in same error.

Peter, In control panel I skip the email settings and go SMTP settings.

The check option works fine, no errors there. It seems that my provider is very strict in the way the email is offered.

Any Suggestions?

Arnoud

ake sure the e-mail settings have a valid e-mail address for your ISP. Most reputable ISP's will not allow open relays to help reduce spam.

It's working now. You must enter a valid email address while configuring VMpro (via control panel). I assumed you only needed to enter the smtp server address and could skip the email settings. I assumed that setting was only needed when using an email client.

Thanks again everybody.

Nope, it's so your ISP knows you are allowed to use their SMTP server.

if you have : 503 5.0.0 Need MAIL command
then you have a forward on your smtp server

Hello,

Just upgraded our IPO 412 from 2.0(16) to 2.1(27) and VMpro went from 2.0? to 2.1(14). The phone system upgrade went perfectly and the VMPro seemed to also work fine but...

My email notifications are no longer working. I have setup the control panel settings a zillion times and imported my vm database. No joy. I can see the VMPro server trying to connect to our email server but a message never arrives and no errors are displayed. I've followed the Avaya instructions but still no joy.

I have downgraded to 2.1(10), and the original install CD for VMPro which is 2.1(5), and it still doesn't work, but I suspect the original install was 2.0x when it worked (the company who installed the system did no upgrades). Monday I'll look at my backup tapes to know for sure. I've read about other users with the same problem but now that I'm strrrrreeeeessssseeddd out I can't find them. Has anyone gotten 2.1x to work with email notifications?

Please don't say "just look in the forum" as I've had a terrible time with Tek-tips timing out during searches and reading posts so please include a thread link.

HELP! I need this to work!

Well I have at least gotten 2.1(5) to work again for sending the email notifications. After retyping all the settings and flipping the connection from SMTP to MAPI and back again it sprang to life.

Now, is it possible to make it work under 2.1(14) with all patches applied?

It's all working again under VMPro2.1(14) as explained in: thread940-999057
