Voicemail to Email issues VMpro 8.1

I am setting up a new VMPro server on new implementation I have it set to SMTP and pointing to a local exchange server that has an account for the VM server. A local outlook client can connect and send emails using the mailbox that has been set up. No emails have been sent with these settings and I'm having trouble finding anything that helps. If the exchange server is 2k7 or 2k10, you need to set up an anonymous relay on the server for the LAN ip of the Vmail pro PC.

Outlook has the ability to authenticate. Vmail pro doesn't (reliably/predictably).

Ehhh...vmpro CAN authenticate, as long as it does not require an SSL connection (on that version).

I will have him check the relay on the exchange. I don't have access to the exchange, but had asked about relay he was told "I think it's set up" For the record I believe it's exchange 2007.
