How do I just enable the simple email notification for a user without an IMS lic. I am under the impression that this is a feature enabled without a lic or with the Voicemail Pro basic lic. Is this true?

They do not have an exchange server but rather exchange pop connection to their email host.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Al

Yes you can do vm to email without IMS.

You have settings under the user for the email type, alert, forward etc.

When you install vm pro you will get an icon in control panel for vm pro. Set up an smtp server in there.

Also check your settings under vm/preferences/general and make sure it is set to smtp.

If you are using an external smtp server you may need to configure dns on the IPO to resolve domain names etc.

If all else fails, read the manual, its all in the install manual for vm pro.

Im having trouble getting the MAPI to work. How should this be setup on the Exchange server?

You said you didnt have an exchange server and you were using an external pop server?

Can you clarify exactly what you are trying to acheive through what hardware.

I have Exchange 2003 on SBS. I have the VMPro on a XP client which is part of the domain.
I followed the instructions to the last period from the VMPro Manual.

I have Outlook 2003 installed on the VMPro Server PC.

Username: VMPro
Email Address: voicemail@domain.com

The service is using VMPro to run on the XP Client and its a member of both local admin and Domain admin groups.

I have set the VMPro Server General Mapi settings set to use the Outlook profile I setup for the exchange accout.
Profile Name: Avaya
Password: same as the username VMPro
I can send emails to anyone on the exchange server.

On the IPOFFICE I have the SMTP server IP address of my Exchange Server and the Username and password is set as the VMPro user account.

Im really confused as to how I am using MAPI if I setup the email with an Exchange Account?

There is no mention of setting up MAPI on the exchange.
Ive never used MAPI so Im not familiar with it, however I am super familiar with basic exchange and been using and setting up Outlook since 97.

Im totally lost!!!

Al

My goal is to get wav files copied to email accounts when vm is left for user or huntgroup.

Hate to sound ungreatful, but Ive been to the entire marketingtools library.
I did this by the book....
For one thing those instructions are out of date because many of the options for mapi are not in the 4.0(15) version of VMPro.

Also can you tell me what the mapi password is set to, is it the same as the domain password?

They really need more IT writers at Avaya, whomever wrote the instructions is not a IT guy. If they work in such proximity of each other avaya + microsoft, they really should write things from a software perspective rather than a phone system perspective. Id say 50% of the marketingtools state the obvious without getting into the specifics. Case in point, the link you sent me.
Thats like saying, "In order to install IP OFFICE, you should take it out of the box first, click here to see that."
No offense to your helpful comments of course, its just frustrating when you do things by the book and they dont work...

You do not need to setup MAPI on your exchange server.

Your giving two ways of emailing. MAPI or SMTP. which do you wish to use?

If MAPI (only way for VM LITE) ensure you can send an email from the machines outlook client. The problem with MAPI is you will need a program that automatically clicks the "YES" Button on ther dialogue box which states a 3rd party application is trying to send an email. Go to control panel and check you have not SMTP settings. Also go into VM PRo and check prefrences are using MAPI. Save and reboot services.

However you mention your setting the SMTP address within control panel.
If this is the case have you also set this within the Voicemail pro Client under Prefrences (What happens if you test?) - General then saved and rebooted the services.

I am only pressing MAPI because I was told you can't forward email wav files w/o it. If you use SMTP you can only sent Alert Messages.
What should be set on the IP OFFICE besides an email address? Should I have smtp settings in the System tabs under Alarms?
Or is that just for integrated?

This seemed allot easier in the training class....Im totally confused now.

Forget any SMTP stuff on the IP Office unit its self.
SMTP can send complete wavs, Its what I do to my blackberry.

For the time being.
Put a check against the following only.

Email address and forwarding type set in user or group.
SMTP/MAPI details set in Control Panel
SMTP/MAPI Choice set in VM Pro its self.

Cant seem to understand it, but checked all, still no messages sent through the email account I created.

Would I see anything in the log/monitor after a vm is left that would indicate a message being sent?

As for now, nothing shows up in my SENT items of the "Voicemail"exchange account.

Would upgrading to ver 4.0(18)help you think? Im really nervouse to mess things up that already work great.

Al

There should be no reason to upgrade. This has never been a bug that I know of.
What happens when you test the SMTP connection in control panel.
Does it suceed?

There are a number of things you must do first:
In VM Pro ithin preferences ( press F9 ) make sure SMTP is enabled.
Goto Start > configuration > IP Office Voicemail Pro
Select SMTP and fill in the SMTP server ip address and other necessery stuff, in the MAPI field enter a valid mail address but do not enable MAPI.
Restart the vocemail service and it should work.
If not then use the vocemail debug tool from the knowledge base and see what happens within VM Pro.
You can also open a telnet session from the VM Pro server to the mail server on port 25 and send mail using telnet.
If that does not work then the mail server does not allow mail relaying, use SMTP instead.
Do a Google search on how to send mail with a Telnet session.

I do not have those tabs to enter info.

All I have is a tab called MAPI

It has two fields:
Mapi Profile
*********
MAPI Password:
*********
Use Email Protocol:
* SMTP
* MAPI

The other tabs are as follows:
General, Directories, Mapi,Housekeeping, SNMP Alarm, Outcalling
Thats all the options I have.

I am talking about the actual administration section of the pc. Under services you have 2 VM services.

How do they run? Local or user\domain?

Look in the Windows Configuration settings there is a VM Pro option.
