hi i need to set up a voicemail- greeting then given choice-press 1 message, press 2 to outside line based on tod or press * to go back to main.do i use message tagging - any help appreciated

those don't sound like normal voice mail prompts, after you log in as a voice mail user, press 8* for a list of prompts, the 1 choice is a burn, press 1 to compose a msg, that is for a message you will send later or to a dist list, not at work so i can't listen to the "lady in the box" but you will here two choices, one for int and one for int.. i usually record mine from the modify menu, just tab down to the prompts recorded field and press the voice key then follow the prompts

There are two main items were greeting/announcements are recorded. There are voice menus and announcements.
Also, if you are using thru dialers, you may have a custom greeting on them.

Voice Menus:
There are potentially two main recordings within a voice menu. A greeting prompt and a menu choices prompt.
Go into the voice menus screen where all menus are listed, highlight the menu and do a modify to enter the
menu configuration. Take note of the Menu ID and Update password. Also look at the Greeting prompt and menu
choices prompt fields. If there is a recording it will say YES.

Announcements:
Do the same thing with your announcements as you did with your voice menus.
(announcements only have one prompt).

To playback or update these recordings, there are two methods. One is by accessing the "Prompt
Maintenance"
service by calling the prompt maint. telephone number. You can obtain this number by looking at
your "Voice
Services DN Table". YOu should see a DN with a service of PM (Prompt Maint.). Prompt maintenace
will ask for
the menu id, update password, and prompt to update. Pretty straight forward. Recordings are made
while the
voice menu is in service, the new recording does not take effect until you finish your prompt maintenance session.

The second method is by entering each menu or announcement and by positioning on the prompt you
wish to update.
When you cursor to the prompt new softkeys will appear on your screen that will allow you to
place a call to a
telephone, then playback or record. You may have security restrictions in the voice mail that
may not allow you
to place the call.

I prefer the Prompt maintenace method, once all your menus/announcements are updated it is quicker
to go thru
and record via telephone, rather than sitting in front of the screen and navigating through all
of the menus.

There is more to cleaning up and removing, but that is another story. The VSDN table is the
gateway to Meridian
Mail and all of its services, by documenting the VSDNs you can then see the first point of
entry whether it be
a voice menu, announcement etc.. and then just take it from there. You will want to look at
the VSDN entries
and verify that all of the DN's are still valid in the PBX. If the number doesnot exist in
the PBX it is say
to say it is a dead service. You can easily remove the VSDN entry. Don't delete any of the
menus or
announcements until you are sure they are not referenced by another VSDN entry or voice menu.
Document all
of your call flows or mappings first.

Thank you for all that-a few ?s-Are the voice menus screens on the vm itself or on a particular phone? So I set up greeting prompt with 2 menu choices. In the menu choices how do you after the message is recorded, for example, press "*" to return to greeting, will I see that in the menu choice field? Both menus need to be recorded.

Heres a great ?. What is an announcement,a pre-recorded recording?

Basically I set up the voicemail first then go to the phone and it will prompt the person to record their voice as per the template setup - correct? I have not yet been on the vm as have no pw yet and all old staff gone-no books, records,nothing-also as obvious I am not too familiar with the meridian (understatement). Tomorrow should be an interesting day!

Do you happen to have a handout or something on the basics of meridian mail. Any help is very appreciated.thank you

for a menu service you don't play in the same field as voice users, from the main menu, option 3 for for services then go to option 6 for menu services, you'll need option 1 to add a number to a voice service dn, that is where you assign the service type ms for menu service and a voice service item number, then option 6 add a ms for the service dn you'll see an access password (skip) and a update password, any 4 digits needed to change greetings.. the revert dn line is for dial 0, the menu choices are below that, each digit can be defined to call ext express mail or step to a different menu... for sec , define all digits to either call, play an annocement, ect, any unneeded digits need to repeat the menu or revert..
