Hello!

I am decommissioning the domain in an office that our company took over. I need to join the voicemail server/manager app computer onto a different domain. I saw that the voicemail server has a service that using a user account instead of local system service. I assume if I just change that account to a user on the new domain the service will run fine. Is this correct?

Also I did a test and just joined the computer to the new domain after hours last night. I could run the manager program but could not login to the ipoffice appliance, I got a authentication error. I went into the security settings and didn't see anything that would prevent access via domain issue. It all looks like built in users that have nothing to do with AD. What am I missing?

Thanks for your help!

move the voicemail pc onto the new domain, make sure you change the ipp address on the pc and in the manager program if needed, set service to local system and ait will be fine.

then on the same network run the manager tool and if your on the local network and have correct ip adress details there should be no real reason why it would not work..are you sure you are using the correct login details?

The user for the VM needs to have Administrator rights ideally, also if you are using VM to email that will be effected by the user change, Manager should work regardless though, were you in the correct IP address range?

Can I install the Manager program on another machine? Its just a console that connects to the appliance correct?

I know the login is correct because it works fine as long as the machine was in the old domain. Its just Administrator and the password.

The subnet has not been changed at all... why do I have to change the ip address?

Thanks for your help guys!

You can load Manager onto any PC you like, it just talks to the system via IP, so as long as you are in the same IP range or have routing in place you don't need to change the IP address :)

Not sure what is wrong with the Manager on the VM server, but everything works fine using the console from another machine. I put the vm service to use the local system account and it works fine.

Thanks again for the quick replies!

>set service to local system and ait will be fine

If it was running as a specified account, there is probably a reason for that...

Email forwarding using MAPI woudl be one.

I suggest that you investigate justa little further....

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

There is no email forwarding set, and the account in use was a normal user account with local admin rights, there is no exchange on this domain and no email address associated with the account...

Would there be any other reason? I assumed they did this for security reasons.

It may have been, I wouldn't worry too much, if you notice something has stopped working you can always chage it :)

It may have been running as a specified account to allow the voicemail to start up when the PC starts, and not have to have someone log in.

Voicemail is running as a service... so it would start up with the machine anyway.

The biggest reason to use a domain account name for the vm service is for IMS. So do you have a IMS license?

Tell me if you have the license first. Answering a question with a question. Whats wrong with you grasshopper? ; )
