Hi

Voicemail pro can not pick up the Avaya control unit ip address on lan1 and I am forced to use lan2 (wan). IP Office Manager still works on the lan1 ip address. When I disconnect the ethernet on lan2 and start voicemail pro, voicemail pro still shows the lan2 ip address. How can I set voicemail pro to use the lan1 ip address? How can I determine why Voicemail Pro will not pick up IP Office on lan1?

You set the system to use a specific VM pro address, not the other way round :)

The default is that the IP Office broadcasts for an available voicemail server. If it finds that server using an IP address that matches its LAN2 domain then it would seem sensible that the IP Office would tell the voicemail server to use the IP Office's LAN2 address. Doesn't causes any problems (afaik).

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

I know what ip address my voicemail server is on. So IP Office broadcasts for a voicemail server, the lan2 is disconnected, why would ip office tell the voicemail server to use an address that is disconnected, particularly when the lan1 is connected? In what situation will the voicemail server pick up the correct ip address (which I want to be the lan1 ip address)?

Enter the address into the programming, if it's not on the same LAN/subnet then enter a route also :)

You might know the address but we don't so we are having to guess. Meanwhile, traffic betwwen LAN1 and LAN2 within the IP Office is pretty transparent unless you apply an internal firewall and mess with the IP routes. So devices with address in the same domain as LAN2 can still talk to the system even when the physical cable if attached to the LAN1 port.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Does Avaya have a document that explains how Voicemail Pro connects to IP Office? I have gone through several manuals and I still have not found that explanation: ip office installation guide, implementing voicemail pro, and voicemail pro admin guide. Of course, this information may be in a knowledge base article, or elsewhere. I know you are explaining the essence of the process to me, but I would like the full explanation (and hopefully Avaya themselves have published this). Thanks!

In Manager, look at the IP address you have set for vmpro. That is what tells the IPO where the vmpro is.

Yes, I have that, and the ip of the voicemail has not been an issue for me. My issue has been the reverse; how to tell the voicemail what ip office ip address to connect to. My last post was asking for some documentation that explains the process. It helps to have documentation, and restrict how much I ask people such as yourself for help. Does anyone know where this is documented?

VM Pro accepts connections from any system, you don't tell the VM what address to use at all, you tell the system where the VM is....that's it :)

in a number of locations
pressing f1 in manager will explain the meaning of the Voicemail IP Address filed.
It is in the Avaya Voicemail Pro installation manual.
the Document CD is available on the Avaya Downloads site.
the latest versions of these documents are also available in the Avaya Knowledge base
