VoiceMail Pro change function keys

Hello Gurus,

Is there any way to change the function keys in VoiceMail Pro in Intuity mode? I mean the keys to fast-forward, rewind, skip, delete messages, etc.

I have a customer who just cannot remember to press *3 to delete messages.

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't think so... you can change to IPO Mode, but that wipes the mailboxes and completely changes how the mailboxes work, plus removes a bunch of options.

IP Office mode is then the only options,or you need a lot of VMPro skills to make that work.

Do they understand that *3 is used because the letter D, as in delete, appears on the 3 on a traditional dial pad?

*3 = *[D]elete
*4 = *[H]elp
*7 = *[R]eturn
*8 = *[T]ransfer
*9 = *[W]ait

They do understand, but they just do not want to press two keys (I think this is where the selective amnesia comes from).

To them it is unacceptable that they should have to press 2 keys. They want to press only one, like their old (circa 1925) voicemail system.

Can anyone come up with something I can tell them to not be so frickin lazy or picky but that does not sound like I am saying that?

Or, I do consider myself pretty good at unravelling esoteric code, so if anyone can point to a very general direction where this can be modified (although it is probably in a compiled dll or something) it would be nice.

Option 1. Stall. Don't bring it up anymore and always be busy doing something else "important". They will forget that it is an issue and start using the buttons.

Option 2. Remind them that there are plenty of people without jobs where past experience doesn't count toward future employment. Their old phone system should stay old and unemployed.

Option 3. beats me.

You can certainly write your own interface using vbScript if they want to pay for the license but I wouldn't take it on personally. If all the value the system has is rendered null by the fact that they have to press 2 keys to delete a message then they didn't need the system in the first place.

If it were me I would offer to put the old system back in place and let them enjoy the bliss of their "circa 1925" voicemail system and all its obvious benefits. But then again I usually walk away from deals where the customer has such limited view of things.

I always tell clients Avaya made it 2-digits so that a client does not accidentally delete a message. Most people listen to their message with their hand over the keypad. It's not easy to mistakenly press *3. But if it were just *, you'd be getting calls on how they can retrieve a deleted message.

I think I will go with CarGoSki's option 1, followed (if necessary) by Telecomboy's suggestion, and finally Kyle's suggestion, since they already have the VB license and it is quite challenging but seriously entertaining to write code in VoiceMail Pro VB. I may even just give it a shot if I am bored.
