hi can any 1 help. i installed dsp II module into a cxi controller. change the v-mail ports from 4 to 16. rebooted etc. if i dial the port 5-16 it's out of service. the vm ports change to 16 but the vm geeting stays @ 4.
it's a standard cxi on analogue no additional card.

Q1. is the DSP II module just for compression or can i increase the V-mail ports as well
Q2. How can i increase the V-mail ports (what card or module should i add on

Do you have compression licenses on the system? Sounds like the DSP II has been allocated another function on bootup possibly compression. I believe there is a command to see what DSP's are assigned to but I'm afraid i don't know what it is.

According to the THB All CXi II configurations that include a DSP II support 16 VM Ports.

If you gave me all of your modules I could be more exact.

You say you increased the ports size but did you program the ports? How are you determining they are out of service?

My notes say DSP II is only used for compression and T.38 Fax
Would have to install a DUAL DSP or QUAD DSP or a e1/T1 Combo module

Note that there is an addendum for the CXi 2, in which the loading differs than the original CXi. You didn't say which you have.

From the shell do a DumpDspBootInfo and post the results.

Also, the DSP II only does G729 compression, T.38, and V.21 detection. Not voicemail. In some hardware configurations it can still help as it can move the G729 compression from a dsp that could do both (the 21161 for example), freeing it up to support more voicemail ports.

Did you reboot after you programmed ports 5-16?
I guess not that is why you get out of service

You might be able to issue the following commands from the RTC shell or the maintanance port

> iPVM_Stop (stops the Voicemail service)
> iPVM_Start (starts the Voicemail service)

note this is case sensitive

If this does not start them then a reboot is required

The CXi supports 16 ports once a DSP module is added even if some of the resourcses are allocated to T.38 or G729

already did this part with the help of IrwinMFletcher, DSPII module will not work on CXi unless upgraded to rel 9 but as detectors only. If you want to increase your vm port then you should install dual or quad dsp module.

As I stated before, All CX configurations in the THB that include a DSP II support 16 VM Ports.

I have listed them below.

If your configuration does not match one of those below, then your configuration is not supported. In all but the first one (2 T1 Cards) an additional DSP module (Quad or dual) is also REQUIRED

16 port VM is also supported in NON DSP II configs.
Base system plus 2x Combo Port E1's etc.

Base + dual DSP Will give you 16 voicemail ports. page 287 of THB.

DSP 2 will not increase voicemail port capacity. The configs with DSP II support compression to max and T.38 faxing. Voicemail port max is gained by virtue of the extra DSP's on the E1 cards.
