Does anyone have a solution to this issue: Voicemail on a user is off, but if someone transfers a caller to that mailbox they are still able to leave a messsage. It is hard to explain to a customer that the VM is turned off when they are still getting message indicator lights on these phones. Thanks.

create a startpoint for that user and send it to wherever you like it to go.
Disconnect preferably :)
or maybe the general mailbox

are they transfering to a shortcode like #201 --> Voice Mail Collect --> #JoeBloggs

this will send to the users mail box regardless of voicemail on or not.

I tried the start point-leave, then disconnect, it still allowed me to leave a message, and yes they are transfering to a shortcode, help!

the answer is to educate the receptionist not to send calls to the shortcode to users who dont want v/mail messages, or delete the shortcode!!

Check the HuntGroup/Overflow that might has vm enabled.

And if you're on 5.0(8), you can forward direct to VM so check the users forwards.

They are at 4.2.20, I agree it is a training issue, but we all know how that goes sometimes, in one ear and out the other, might try visual voice and get rid of the shortcode.

Thanks for everyones help.

Another option is to forward all messages to that mailbox to email...

if you create a leave point and send that to a disconnect then they should not be able to leave a message.
I will try that in the morning.

Or you could make shortcodes for all users with voicemail on
Then they can not forward to voicemail anymore for user who have it turned of

I quite liked mforrences forward to an email address option. :).

Westi's solution of creating a Leave Point to a Disconnect action will drop a call transferred to Voicemail, however will not stop a Message forwarded to the mailbox.

I guess combining the two would be a way forward.

Otherwise, don't know how practical it is for you to upgrade to V5, as there's another disable mailbox option. If you select 'Users' so that the list of users appears in the right hand panel, then select a user in the right hand panel and right mouse click, there are a number of options, one of which is 'Disable Mailbox'. While the one configured via the Manager stops the calls being redirected to Voicemail, the one in the voicemail doesn't allow the mailbox to accept messages, if the call does get transffered, or if somebody forwards a message.

Taurean - I reconfigured my Manager app to show the users in a list format and right clicked as you suggest but see not additional option for disabling a mailbox. Can you tell me more? Furthermore I cannot find any documentation on this - did you find it in the knowledgebase somewhere? This is really good to know if I can get this to work!

adc110, this is done in release 5 voicemail client not Manager, click on users in VM Pro client and when you right click you will see the options, they are also there if you read an older system with R5 client but it does nothing :)

Got it! Can once supersede the other? For example if you disable the mailbox using the VM Client but do not disable VM in manager do you know what happens? Lastly,I am in the middle of configuring a clients system using embedded VM. I suppose the mailbox will stay in tact and that the new solution is for VM Pro only? Thanks!

The setting in the client totally disables the mailbox regardless of what you set in Manager. And yes this only works for VM Pro, as you know there is no way to view or configure mailboxes on embedded outside of the Manager app :)
