HELP!! I'm getting the message Voicemail Not Running, when I press the envelope/VM button on the phone. This is on Embeded Voicemail with I posted my previous thread on my SD card being read only.

I put the card back into the system, then plugged it back in, after having shut down via IPO Manager, and waiting until only the CPU light was lit orange/red in the back before pulling the plug and removing the SD card.

I didn't make any changes to the card, just copied from it to my computer's hard drive, and from there to a 2nd SD card, since no-one confirmed that removing the read-only attribute from the system folder, from Windows/an SD card reader, would be safe.

Please tell me how I could get the system to see the voicemail. I see the File > Memory Card Command > Start Memory Card commmand, but I've never had to use that before, and nothing I've found about Voicemail Not Running suggest doing this.

That seems like it might work, but it's largely undocumented as far as I can tell, and I don't want to do anything to cause further problems.

Do you run with the original AVAYA SD card or with the copied one?
If you use the copied card then replace with the original and reboot.
If you use the original AVAYA SD card the rebuild it with Manager.

Thanks for the reply. I ran the original card. I'd really like to avoid rebuilding it if at all possible.

I didn't get any answer about the safety of removing the read-only attribute, so I didn't do it or anything else to the card. I don't know why the card wouldn't be reading now.

I was planning on shutting down again, making sure I could still read it in my memory card reader.

Can you call me? I'm working for free on a Sunday night in brooklyn trying to get this to work. I'll pay you out of my own pocket just to get it up and running. Please call me 631-741-8443. Thanks a lot.

Changing the read only status with a PC can be done safely.
Just don't reformat or wipe all files using Windows. All other tasks ca be done without a problem.

Thanks again. I removed the read-only attribute on the /system directory on the SD card, but I see that the size of the files on the SD card may be maxing out it's (apparently) 2GB size, and that may be why the system set it to read only, and why after re-inserting it, it might refuse to use it.

Is it safe to move some of the files which appear to be for phones other than the 9504 and 9508 models which I have, such as the /system/primary/S9621_41HALBR6_2_2_09U_V452.tar off of the SD card, to free up space?

I really don't mean other files, but just that one, and the couple of other S96xx...tar files in the primary folder. Are those still needed if I don't have those phones?

Please call me 631-741-8443. I'll pay you for your time, via paypal, or however. Thanks.

Now I'm getting System Unlicensed on the display, after doing nothing but changing the read-only attribute on the SD card's /system directory. Please call me!

Yes you can remove the other phone firmware if you are not using, in fact you can put all firmware files on a separate HTTP server if you wish.

If i were you i would save the config, then with a laptop running IP Office manager both format and then recreate the card. Once done put the card from the laptop back in to the IP Office and boot it up, then you will need to send the config back to the IP Office via the manager, connecting to it (from memory) on the IP address 192.168.42.1 on LAN1.

If the system is saying system unlicensed then check the Essential Edition license is correctly applied as per the dongle serial number.

If you get really stuck and just need it up and running, in the past i have flashed version 7 firmware which doesn't need Essential Edition until you get time to fix it up properly.

this system files for the Phones etc do not take up a significant portion of the space on the SD card
if your card is nearly full you need to check mailbox usage & ensure that old messages are being deleted.
I suspect you may have a mailbox you are unaware of that is full of messages dating way back that are not being checked, this needs to be resolved.

Either educate the users or switch of VM on the offending mailbox, removing system files will only give a temporary reprieve unless the true cause is eliminated.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

The Avaya cards are 4GB, if it's 2 it isn't an Avaya card so will never work, you can't just use any card you like, they are special digitally watermarked cards :)
