Hi. We've just become Avaya BP, taken delivery of our 406v2 Demo system and done the courses, but are stuck at one of the basics.

We have a basic config on the 406 with incoming and outgoing calls and want to now setup all different VM's. The embedded card is not installed and we don't have VMPro installed anywhere, but VM Lite does not seem to want to work with our 406. VMLite is running and i can see the 406 talking away but no mailboxes are getting created.

In VMLite i get the following log entries;
15:00:12.406 - PBX Requesting ALaw companding
15:00:12.406 - Initialize Sequencer tx_seq=0, rx_seq=1
15:00:12.406 - TFTPLoadFile 10.0.1.240
15:00:12.406 - 0 mailboxes were open (but not active) when flushed
15:00:12.421 - DevIO::StartTask 10.0.1.240
15:00:12.453 - DevIO::processReceiveBuffer 10.0.1.240
15:00:16.312 - DevIO::RxAbort 10.0.1.240
15:00:16.312 - DevIO::Detach 10.0.1.240
15:00:16.343 - DevIO::Detach 10.0.1.240
15:00:18.765 - 10.0.1.240 - Awaiting load of config, access to voice mail denied.

I am using IP Office Manager 6.0.5.0 with VMLite 2.1(4). I have no issues using IPO Manager.

Not sure if it is just a coincidence, but i cannot get sysmonitor to connect either. Just says it is trying to connect.

Any ideas? Must be something simple which this newbie has missed.

THanks

you are using the wrong version voicemail lite
you should use the one that is on the admin cd of 4.05
your ip office is on 4.0.5 and your voicemail is 2.1 ???
this won't work
so upgrade your voicemail lite

TLPeter is wrong,

The VMlite version is still 2.1.4 and has been for al long time for sure on 2.1, 3.0 3.1 3.2 and now for 4.0.

look in de CD Contents.txt file found on the AdminCD of all
software versions.

So it isn't the answer to your problem but would keep you from deinstalling and reinstalling.

your right

that happens when you read fast :)
then i also think it is a firewall issue
pfff i am glad it is friday
customer called me 3 times in the middle of the night this week
i love service :)

The XP firewall on the box that VMLite is installed on is turned off, so it is not the XP Firewall. TFTP seems to work fine and that is hosted on the same box.

Data Execution Prevention?
is it installed on a supported OS?

is the pc with voicemail lite connected trhue a switch or direct on the ip office ?
if not then try it with the direct connection
also with the pc whit monitor
i had this kind of issues once before but i can't remember the solution

The answer lies in the security settings in the IPO I think...
Have you configured a different password for the unsecured interfaces in Manager- Security-System-Unsecured Interfaces?
99% sure I've had the same problem with VMPro, monitor and call status.. and funnily enough i had decided to play around with these new settings for security on our office system... and made everything stop.... for quite some time... :)
Not sure bout the VM Lite though? isn't anywhere to change the app password settings that I know of? Probably tied to the system password setting though?

IRISH,
I am going to be bold here, and tell you something that no one here has been direct about. If you are this new to the IPO, you have no business using version 4.0 at all yet. Downgrade the 4.0 to 3.2.55, or 3.1.65, and learn the IPO on one of those releases.

Multiple reasons
1) These versions are much more stable.
2) These versions have many more techtips, job aids, and experienced advisors on tek-tips, in distributor support, and Avaya support venues.
3) Even the most experienced techs in tech tips who as a rule are answering questions of others, and who rarely do I see asking questions are asking many questions on 4.0, and having many more issues than with any other version I have seen. When you get good with 3.2.55 go to 4.0, it should be a couple maint releases down the road by then.
4) I do not support implementing 4.0 myself at this time, and have only serviced 4.0 if someone else has installed it.
5) Since this is your first run through setting up the IPO, it would serve you best to be able to get through it without having to do workarounds, patches, jury riggings. The number of workaround situations right now in 4.0 would only serve to confuse you with how things are supposed to work, and burn into your first impressions how not to do things, since the workarounds will not be things you will need long term to function. The next release should eliminate 3/4 of the work arounds, and thus 95% of the time to program/re-program, and test/re-test your configuration. The thing is, you wont know it is a bug, and will take it for as designed performance, or that you messed something up.
I would not use 4.ZERO unless you are an expert.

This opinion comes from someone who has been training technical to the non-technical person for 20 years, training techs for 18 years, mentoring kids for 20 years, have done test plan writing, and executing for as400 software for a year, written hundreds+ of pages of procedures for technical proccesses, and enjoys training people. So I am not afraid of learning, or challenging others to learn, and display competency as part of training. It is just about like trying to learn to ride a unicyle on a tricycle right now.

ok, will check the security settings.

aarenot, i think your comments are very valid. We upgraded to 4.0 simply for the SIP trunking, without giving anything else much thought. We also do a lot of IT work and as a general rule of thumb apply this simple logic to all our customer installations. We have being advising our customers not to go near MS Vista yet and even though we are an MS Partner and get Vista for free we have not installed it ourselves.

THanks to all for input.

IRISH,
If you want to greatly accelerate your learning curve on the IPO, I would suggest you find an IPO Guru to come in and give you some training. The IPO is a very open system with many capabilities. It also allows you to do the same things in many different ways, some of which work, but are not as stable as other ways.

Most guys on here would probably tell you they found a better way, along the way many times, and it has made their systems more efficient.
