I've had a hunt through the IP OFfice and Voicemail Pro manuals but can't find any mention of the lifespan of a voicemail.

I would assume that a voicemail left in a users box would remain until deleted. It would be automatically removed after say 1 month would it?

messages that havent been listened to are treated as new and are never auto deleted.

same goes for saved messages.

old messages are deleted as per the settings in the housekeeping tab in voicemail pro

I see, so old messages are ones that have been listened to then?

yup, listened to but not manually deleted or saved

depends what voicemail you have

on lite and embedded an old voicemail stays for 24 hours if i remember rightly, until the housekeeping is done on the voicemail

in voicemail pro you can set it yourself but its set to a month as standard if i remember rightly

Baically open VM Pro press F9 then click on Housekeeping.

Does anyone know if its possible to set different timers on different mailboxes.

ie one user wants to keep messages for 60 days another wants to have them deleted after 7 days - is this possible. Ive looked and dont think it is but thought it worthwhile checking.

Afraid not :)

When you're talking 120 users plus it would be a nightmare to manage.

Thought that was the case. Would be nice to have the option of a system wide one as now, but also with the option to set different times for individual mailboxes I think.

They probably could write that into the software but as I say if the VM has to monitor 180 users with individual timers for message deletion and they have like 40 messages on top of everything else the VM does per second. I would imagine that would push the specs for the systems up. Plus it's just something extra to have go wrong and troubleshoot. :)
