hello!

i am using IP Office and need to be able to have users check their voicemail when they are on the road.

now, i'm expecting this to be something terribly simple, so i appreciate you bearing with me...
the procedure that i have read in my documentation says to call the extension, and when your voicemail comes up, press '8'. this should prompt for a passcode and everything should be smooth from there... right?

when i try this, nothing happens at all.
any suggestions?

thanks so much

How are you doing this?

Incoming call route pointing to Destination Voicemail.

Have you set a Password in the user tab or included the user number in the Source ID.
Also have you spare ports on the VM at the time where you are ringing in. I would assume VM internally is up (*17)
May be worth restarting the VM Services also.

on the incoming call route, i have the call going to a destination extension. so, for example, you call 1-123-456-3000 and it is mapped to extension 300. assuming that's my extension, i call my line from the road... how would i check my voicemail anyways? is that pressing '8' command even correct?

well, i did put in a password on the user tab, but to no avail. also, i put in several variations of the cell phone i am testing with (with a 9, without a 9, with a 1, etc) but still no luck.
is that the number i need in there?

vm is up internally at least.
any other ideas?

thank you

Incoming call route pointing to Destination Voicemail via a spare did number, as i33byt1 says to do, is the way to have customers call in remotely to check v.m. Also, what version of v.m. do you have running, intuity or i.p. mode?

If using an AA (VM PRo)have a touch tone go to a get mail action with $key set as the mailbox # in the specific tab.

i just got this to work.

thank you for spelling it out everyone. 1043, not really sure what you're talking about, but it looks neat.
i'm way new to this system (vm pro with ip phones) and i just had a differenct concept of how this was done. i was expecting to call into your own extension from an outside line to check your own voicemail. i didn't realize that you call into a set number, and THEN put in which mailbox you want to go to. i was just overcomplicating the issue.

avaya and i do not think alike on many things.

anyways, thank you so much. you were very helpful and i appreciate it so much!

On my system you can press *7 after hitting a personal mailbox to check voicemail. Just like the other Avaya voicemail systems.

Should read
If using an Auto Attendant to answer calls (VM PRo)from the first menu have a touch tone go to a get mail action with $key set as the mailbox # in the specific tab of the get mail action. I use *7 as the touch tone.

Usually you just call your own extension and when you hear your voicemail greeting you hit "8" if running in "IP Office mode". Don't remeber the code for "Intuity mode".

Only setting needed is to enter a code under the voicemail tab in the user settings using Manager or you can have to users enter their own code using the phone when they are in the office.
