voicemail/email stopped working on gmail account

Nothing changed on the system or gmail account password.

Any suggestions on the SMTP settings to send to gmail accounts. Is STARTTLS all of a sudden required?

yes STARTTLS is required. Enable the logging, restart the service then check what you have in the VM>Logs folder.

I've found that you have to login to the Gmail account and allow legacy devices (or something like that). Gmail has a security feature that sees the voicemail as unauthorized client and shuts it down. Look for Allow less secure apps in the gmail settings.

Allow less secure apps, and create an app password. Enter that app password into manager instead of the regular account password. Check use STARTTLS.
