When you have a 2 site location, and each side has its own Voicemail pro, are you not supposed to tick the 'Voice Networking' box on the VPN lines?

I asked because it was said to me and I have only installed ~50 sites around the country - including our offices - in that manner.

After I initially posted I then saw Tech Tip 135 dated May 9th, 2006.

I have never had a problem personally, but there it is in black and white. Looks like I have been doing things wrong for 3+ years now. Who knew?

The tip says when using centralised vm, you r not using centralised are you?

No, but read the second paragraph:

In a multi site IP Office configuration, if a local voicemail system is required for each site,
then Small Community Networking must be disabled. SCN can be disabled by unchecking
the “Voice Networking” check box in the VoIP tab of the IP Line. Disabling
“Voice Networking” will disable all SCN features, thus requiring short codes to be
created in order to route calls to and from remote sites.

It doesn't apply just to centralized VM, it is stating that if you want an SCN, centralized VM is your only option if you want all sites to have VM.

The last paragraph is just stating that you can't do 2 centralized VM servers across a 4 location SCN for example.

I think there has been an issue reported to Avaya where the use of SCN with multiple VM Pro's caused some problems.
So now Avaya states it is not supported in order to avoid future related cases wich can't be solved by Avaya.
I also have seen some 2.1 SCNs with multiple VM Lites without a problem but maybe it won't work anymore in a 3.1 environment due to increased features.
If it works it's ok, if it gets broke then bad luck, don't call Avaya, thats the message.

great message Avaya.....have many scn site at all sw levels and havent seen any issues related to vm...most are vm lite though
VM Pro will learn groups across the network evan though you cant dial them, strange that...
