I was upgrading a 406v2 to 3.1.56 admin and 3.1.18 vm pro. The uninstallation of the Admin package worked fine, however, for some reason VMPRO didn't fully uninstall and some parts were left on the computer. When I go to control panel and try to uninstall from Add/Remove programs, it isn't listed... However, when I try to reinstall the new version of VMPRO - it tells me it is already there. I can't do anything with it. Is there a version of VMPRO that doesn't need the older version completely out before installation? I was hoping maybe I could install an older version, get it to completely uninstall and then try the new version....

If I can't do that, does anyone know any tricks to get around this? I'm using an HP Proliant Server running Server 2003.

Thanks.

I have seen that with some of the older versions. If you have the VM Pro CD from the original version you can uninstall that way. Then you can continue with your upgrade. If you aren't sure what version you are running and you get jumbled letters when you go to Help--About you can open up C--Program Files--Avaya--IP Office-VM Pro--VM--VMPRO5SVC. Then right click and select properties and then go to the version tab.

Thank you... I don't have the CD from the original install, I can't open voice mail pro (it's technically not there) ...but I do know that it was the version prior to 3.1.18... if I download it and burn it to CD will that help me at all?

3.1.16 was the version prior to 3.1.18 and it was released in Dec of 05. You can check avaya.com for the version. If it is on there, you should have no problem burning it to a CD and doing the uninstall. That is how I get all of my versions.

this still isn't working, is there anything i need to do special to fix this?

Go to Help--About you can open up C--Program Files--Avaya--IP Office-VM Pro--VM--VMPRO5SVC. Then right click and select properties and then go to the version tab.

Can you do this part and verify that it is 3.1.16? If the program can't be uninstalled then this file should still be there. If it isn't 3.1.16 then you will need to find the right version.

I can't open the VMPRO application, its not on the computer, just fragments of VMPRO are there. The service is there and it is also still listed under control panel.

Use the microsoft installer cleanup utility, you can find it ( and the way to use it ) here :
It only removes the install information from the registry, not the actual files on your disk.
The old install information blocks a new installation, this usually happens if the software has been removed by another user as it has been installed with.

Give the Man a star for his work.
