No way, no how, not gonna happen. Tell your customer that if their phone system was a computer, it would be a Commodore 64. Time to upgrade to something designed/manufactured in the last 10 years.
I should also have said that the 616 FLEX is a great little work horse, durable as heck. There are still many, many of those systems out there. It is just extremely limited in what it was capable of. It was designed pre-CID, pre VM.
You can use CO based Voicemail and have their Hunt Group Call forward No Answer (after 4 or 5 rings) to a company general mailbox or manually forward to the mailbox for after-hours call coverage. If more than one mailbox is needed, they can get a mailbox for each user that requires one and add Call Transfer (Through their LEC or CLEC) and when a call is answered and needs to go into voicemail they would press the Flash key (Dial tone is returned) and dial the individual mailbox number and hang up. That will send the caller to that mailbox.
You are in an awesome position at this point. When you figure up the cost to rent the CO mailboxes per month with the call transfer feature, show the cost over a year and you will have a telephone system sale. It costs so much to use voicemail with the old systems that it make sense to upgrade!
