Voice Mail Alternate Extension

I'm trying to have 2 phone numbers share 1 VM box? I tried to add the phone number via the alternate extension, but it said that number already exists.

What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you need to delete an existing mailbox for the number you are trying to add to this mailbox

To make sure the functionality works, pick a number outside of your normal range of numbers that you know is not used any where else and temporarily try to add that to the mailbox, just to see if it takes.

That works, I guess I'll have to temporarily delete the alternate number's mailbox.... Or do you have any other ideas?

One extension can only be associated with one mailbox. However, one mailbox may be associated with multiple extensions.

IOW an extension already having a mailbox cannot have (or be associated with) another.

A second way to do this is to add a Voice Mail Profile to the second DN to make it look like the number of the VMail box you want to share. The VMP will mask the real number and make it look like a diiferent number is accessing the Vmail box.
This way you won't have to delete the second mailbox until you are ready.
