Voice Gateway Media Card Capacity

Every time I order additional IP handsets from my provider they ship and install extra VGMCs as well. I know that a VGMC port is only needed for IP to non IP so it follows I dont need this 1 to 1 provisioning. How can I tell how many ports I'm actualy using on a given day in the busy hour. Thanks

are you paying for the extra vgmc? if not, then think of it as a present...if you're being charged for it, return it and ask for credit.

The VGMC will allow 128 IP sets to register to them...per card if your SigSer goes down. Each VGMC will provide 32 DSP per card (providing it the 32 port card and not the 8 port one) for IP to TDM trancoding

They could be allotting for call blocking in the IP environment, but how many MCs have they installed. Someone is getting one heck of a commission.

correct that it will register 128 ip phones but does not give you 32 dsp's, when used for IP trunk it gives you 32 h323 trunks & 8 dsps, but when loaded wih IP line it just give you 8 dsp's. It can setup 8 calls Similtaniously, and can manage a total of 32 calls at the same time. when an IP set crosses into the TDM domain it seizes 1 of the MC32 TN's for the duration of the call

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder

There was a deal through Nortel that if you ordered 40 IP sets you got a free card. Maybe that is why you are getting the card.

In the NECC Nortel Order tool, your vendor is able to manually remove the VGMC to be shipped if not required
