I'm looking at Partner ACS from Avaya and the Starplus STS system from Vodavi. While both seem equivalent in feaures and performance, I'm leaning towards the latter because:
1. For a 6-line 10-xtension system STS costs around $5000 while ACS is $6600

2. STS is all-digital while ACS is an analog phone (CTI capabilities out-of-the-box for STS)

Would you guys agree with me? Is there another system that I shd look at?

Would appreciate any and all input!

Uday

Hi umenon,
The Partner has some CTI solutions, an early version was called PassageWay. The other point to be made is that a hybrid system like the Partner has some advantages over a purely digital system. Analog sounds better than cheap digital. In the end, your situation will decide but I like the flexability the Partner has to offer.
If you want networking and really good digital phones, then look at the Magix product. This is overkill for your system size but we've installed some small systems because of some features (and the phones look cool).

The STS has a horrible track record. In one week alone, 3 out of box failures for the same customer translated into a lack of credibility. The ACS has a known track record, good chance at resale and upgrade capability and anybody can fix or program it. Vodavi, while cheap, is more proprietary, has a zero resale value and is difficult to find techs to fix.

In this case, you definitely get what you pay for.

while I enjoy both systems..........MY BIGGEST SELLER IS THE NEC DS1000/2000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is by far the nicelest system I have ever installed........real nice INSKIN VOICE MAIL SYSTEM....

Partner ACS has a new feature coming out, called SMDI, station message detail IMMEDIATE, which will spit out the SMDR info at the beginning of the call, to be used by third-party apps for CTI integration. I don't know what those third-party apps are, but it sounds interesting....

uday,
i have a great comparision chart comparing both of them non biased. If you would like to see it please send me an email..

I am new to Partner, but long-time Merlin user. One big selling point for Merlin has been the long-life of the parts (plenty of 18-year old parts are still in use), the longevity of the architecture, and the availability of spare parts on the used market.

Another factor is the community of knowledge out there.

How many MILLIONS of Vodavi systems have been installed?

Compare availability of used parts on eBay, and size of the community here on Tek-Tips. 5 years from now, when you need a new phone, or want advice, will you be able to get it? H

The Partner ACS system is more expensive than the Vodavi STS. The Partner ACS is easier to program for the end user. While the STS can be user programmed it is much more complicated. The ACS can use a system phone or a single phone in any port. The STS has two single line devices on the control unit and more can be added ($$$$).

If you're considering just the price...the STS will probably work fine. I have installed several and I have not had any problems.
